Tag Teaming in Network Marketing

I remember first hearing the phrase “tag teaming” about fifteen years ago. The way it was explained to me completely turned me off. Basically a group of people hound and peruse a lead until the lead finally says yes.

A person who says yes under pressure is not a person you want in your business. And ganging up on a lead is also not the way to run your business.

Network marketing is about relationships. Relationships need common ground. Tag teaming in network marketing is about finding common ground with a lead and using that common ground to form a relationship.

Let’s say I meet Chris. Chris comes to me with a slight interest in joining the company. I want to learn about Chris. I want to know where he lives, what kind of work he does, what his hobbies are etc. Maybe I have a cousin that lives in the same state as Chris. This is one small area we can talk about as we exchange pleasantries on the places I saw when I saw my cousin. As I learn more about Chris, I learn he is really into racquet ball. It just so happens that the husband of one of my upline also plays racquet ball. Wow, a possible connection. So I ask my upline to email him. I send the first email. I say something like “Hi Chris, I’m copying my upline so and so on this email. When you mentioned to me your love of racquet ball, I immediately thought of so and so. Not only can she answer any business questions for you, but her husband also plays the sport daily.”

My upline now responds with an email, again copying me. In this email, my upline will introduce herself, give a bit of information about herself and then introduce the topic of racquet ball. Now there are two connections between Chris and my team. Connection one is with me, the places we’ve both visited in his home state and connection two is with my upline whose husband shares a love of racquet ball. This is true tag teaming. Two team members working on one relationship for a possible business connection.

Tag teaming can also work downline. If I meet someone who might be interested in the business and I find a strong common factor between this prospect and an existing team member, I can turn the lead over to my team member which is beneficial in two ways. I’m supporting my existing team while strengthening the bond between the team and the lead. Again, I send an email introducing the two parties and pointing out the common ground.

This is tag teaming in network marketing. You are creating relationships that often lead to increased business and also can lead to wonderful friendships.
