Many men find themselves asking the question, how do I increase my sperm volume? Put simply, sometimes the amount that comes out when they ejaculate can be rather discouraging. Sometimes, barely any comes out! This should not be a cause for undue concern, although it would still be a good thing to try and find out more about its possible causes and solutions.
There are actually various and many factors that may affect sperm count, with most of them easily corrected through the right means. Some of them may take some more effort to correct. Here, we will lay out the various reasons and try to understand them in order to better determine how to deal with low sperm count or ejaculate amount.
Some common causes would include sitting for long hours (couch and office potatoes, take note!), tight underwear, hot baths, obesity, excessive smoking and alcohol use, constant ejaculation, and just stress, in general. More rarely is low ejaculate amount due to actual malformations in the genitals or infections in the prostate.
Now, knowing these causes can help since you now know what to avoid, if at all possible. For instance, reduce pressure on your testicles by buying underwear that fit snugly but not tightly. Try to walk around and take breaks from long stretches of sitting down, whether on a couch or on an office chair or in front of a computer. Short breaks of walking or getting a drink of water are simple ways to relieve pressure caused by sitting all day.
Obesity presses on testicles through the layers of fat that may end up surrounding the genitals. This may also cause genital temperature to rise, which is not a good thing. In fact, the testicles are placed outside the body, hanging in the scrotum, to cool it down from the body temperature of 98.6 degrees. These layers of fat may in effect withdraw the testicles back into the warmth of the body, which may prove to cause low sperm amount in the long run. This is also why taking hot baths may also decrease ejaculate and sperm levels. Think of this as another reason to try and get into shape!
The other reasons are also easy to understand. Constant ejaculation will deplete your body’s stores and stress will impair their functioning. Take a break once in a while, and relax, and you should see your performance improve in a couple of days.
But if none of these common reasons are affecting you and you still experience these symptoms, it would be time to consult your doctor. Do not be afraid to have your prostate and genitals checked, since delaying might lead to worsening, or even infertility.
