Throughout, American history, regardless of the rhetoric, differences, vitriol, and divisiveness of the election campaigns, United States Presidents, consistently, permitted, a smooth transition, to the President – Elect, not necessarily, because, they wished to, but, I like to believe, due to knowing, it was, in the best interests, of this nation! As I am writing this article, we are witnessing, this administration, and Trump’s political appointees, especially, the woman, who runs, the General Services Administration, deny the reality of the election (despite, nearly every major news media, declaring Trump’s opponent, Joe Biden, the victor), and refusing to proceed, forward, in a timely manner, in order to ensure, a smooth transition, of the Presidency. This failure, to do so, potentially, has several undesirable ramifications, such as, the future President, being unprepared, because, he doesn’t receive intelligence briefings, nor receive, the usual, necessary funds, for proceeding forward, and being able to assume the office of the Presidency, on January 20, 2021, at noon, in a seamless way. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 6 of the reasons, this nation, needs, and deserves, a smoother transition.
1. Up – and – running, on the first day: Isn’t it, in the best interests, of all of us, whether we supported and voted for the present occupant of the White House, or the future one, for the leader of the free world, to be up – and – running, prepared, knowledgable, fully – briefed, and ready, willing, and able, to perform the duties of the office, on his first day? Precedent shows, for example, when the election, was last disputed (and, then, it truly was), President Clinton’s administration provided, both candidates, Bush and Gore, with the necessary access, etc.
2. Know pending threats, etc: Intelligence briefings, and gatherings, help to inform our President, of any potential threats, dangers, etc. This helps that individual, prepare, and be ready, to address, prepare, and serve, as effectively, as possible!
3. Know pending agreements/ discussions: Never, before, has out President, apparently, withheld, relevant information, in terms of discussions, with foreign leaders, etc, as we have witnessed, these past four years! Our nation would benefit, if/ when, there was clarity, and transparency, and the future leader, knew, of relevant, pending discussions, and/ or, potential agreements!
4. Make it smooth and seamless: If this process was smooth, and seamless, our citizens, allies, and foes, would be comforted, by how, our government, transitions, effectively! Shouldn’t our next leader, be, as informed, prepared, and, up – to – date, as possible, for the best interests of our nation, citizens, and world?
5. Protecting future President: During election campaigns, candidates are provided, protective services, from the Secret Service, and, the victor, is, usually, provided, additional protection, etc. Doesn’t that make sense?
6. Read correspondence: Joe Biden, after his victory, was declared, reached – out, to numerous foreign leaders, to reassure them, and inform them, he looked forward to working with them, towards the greater good. However, unless/ until, he is provided access, to reading his correspondence, probably, perhaps, hundreds of these, are sitting, without response, and/ or, recognition. How does that make us, appear, to the rest of the world?
Wake up, America, because, these 6 reasons, are, merely, the tip – of – the – iceberg, and we must demand, every effort is made, to begin, the process, needed, to ensure, an orderly, smooth, transition of power! This must, in the future, never, again, be a political process, but, rather, the norm!
